why hello there livejournal, long time no see! [Apr. 21st, 2009|03:27 pm]
[Current Mood | excited]

is there anyone reading this that I haven't added to Facebook at this point? I'm still reading livejournal, but to be honest my interest in writing in it has significantly waned.

So this weekend, Tonya and I are planning to run away from home and to Atlantic City! I'm crazy excited. It's been ages and AGES since I took a nice girl trip. We leave Saturday morning and then head back on monday. I think it's going to be a blast :D

Our quite fluid itinerary:

Saturday:
Leave in the morning
Meet Karyn and Charles for lunch in NY
Arrive at the Colonial Inn at Historic Smithville NJ
Have high tea
Ride the hand carved Carousel
Maybe take a trip into Atlantic City for some shopping or nightlife
Take bubblebath while looking out over the lake

Sunday:
Have breakfast delivered to room
Browse the smithville specialty shoppes
Head down to Atlantic City
Hit the outlet stores
Check into our room at the Taj Mahal
Walk down the boardwalk and put our toes in the sand and more shopping!
Go to the amusement park on Steel Pier
Play the Star Trek slot machine and hope to win a tribble bonus
Visit Lucy the Elephant
Go to the Boogie Nights 70's dance club

Monday:
a little more shopping then head home!

so I guess this has become more of a monthly update recently... [Feb. 18th, 2009|04:30 pm]
[Current Mood | thinking]

I'm not sure what it's been over the past year or so, but it's not that I lack things to say...I just seem to lack the inclination to write them down right now. The past couple months especially I've barely been on LJ at all (although family drama has been responsible for a chunk of that.) Nor am I the only one. Several others have closed off, deleted, or otherwise restricted their posting as well. So it seems that there are only a few people left posting that are likely to post anything really about themselves. I of course, am part of the problem, not the solution and I realize that!

To a certain degree I think I've found Facebook an easier outlet recently because...well, because it seems to require less commitment I suppose:) And so many things DO require commitment from me! But also it has been offering me the amazing opportunity to reconnect with some of the people I held really dear in HS.

It's breezy and easy...but I do miss the more intimate offering LJ too. So no, this is not leading up to another "I'm deleting/restricting/removing you or this journal" post! Just...musing I guess.

yes...I noticed.

I'm not sure I understand entirely but...well, you do whatever it is you need.

If it's there to be read, it will be.

and the world goes round... [Dec. 15th, 2008|11:31 am]
[Current Mood | awake]

So it was a busy if rather pleasant weekend. Had Friday "off" which really entailed me cooking for most of the day making a stew and then chicken ginger buns for a party Saturday, then running out to do as many shopping errands as I could before the temperature dropped (at which I was only moderately successful)

Saturday there was a house warming/holiday/birthday party going on up in Nashua for most of the evening. So decided to head up there early so we could take a look at an old saab 900 convertible I saw online for not too terribly much. Of course me, not having been at work or really online/tv at all on Friday...I had no idea about the ice storms, as they really didn't touch us in Arlington at all. Driving up it was like we crossed some sort of line near the NH border. Suddenly Everything was covered in ice. Then we got to nashua and out of the car....DEAR LORD it was cold. Absolutely fridgid. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, given the weather) the convertible sold only yesterday. On the market for months...of course it sells just before I take a look! lol. Guess I'm not really in a rush though. I'll keep looking til I find an old convertible for around 5k with under 100k miles. In this economic climate, I think it'll turn up eventually!

Anyway, so we headed over to the party which was really fun. Got to see and hang out with several people I haven't seen alot of recently, as well as a few that I do. Ate much food, played a strange boardgame called Dirt (at which I was vastly amused ONLY Pat guessed that I would have tasted edible undies) watched bad yet amusing snl timberlake music videos including jizz in my pants and dick in a box (and its non snl sequel my box in a box) and gave a short instructional on how a clock can work with no batteries. Much fun and definately requires a sequel!

Then sunday was braving more shopping and going over to Scott and Tonya's to visit with them and the boys. I think Johnboy's grown a foot since october O.o We ate the 2nd pumpkin pie I'd frozen at thanksgiving which I'm happy to say still came out quite tasty (real pumpkin, no canned...its the way to go!) Then came home, played a bit of WoW, then bed.

All and all a rather satisfying, if maybe not overly productive weekend. Now it's back to work and a day packed full of meetings. This isn't as insane as last xmas was around here actually...but I can see the storm a comin! I expect work to explode any day now.

Hmm...and that's what she wrote :)

Well... [Dec. 10th, 2008|04:25 pm]

Startling, to find you're not able to read what you usually could.

Startling, but I guess not alltogether suprising. I could hardly begrudge anyone who wanted a fresh start.

I have survived!!! [Sep. 3rd, 2008|09:12 am]
Another year, another Move-in weekend survived.

Actually, as stressful as the lead up to it is...I always enjoy freshman move-in in particular. The kids are all so fresh and excited with a nice dash of terror thrown in ;)

So now that the most stressful of stressful summers has come to an end, I can finally turn my attention to the things around me again! YAY

ok, so who's buying the booze? ;)

I can't believe it has been since June that I last posted here. Things have been so beyond insane, I don't even really know where to begin.

I went to my annual ResNet conference, this time up in canada. Unlike most years though, this time it was strangely sad. I think the fact that it was so small this year (I suspect because it was in canada) had alot to do with it, but it just didnt...feel the same. It was fun and all, but I didn't feel that real binding sense of comraderie I always have. And even though it was the same in some ways as last year...living in dormatories, eating school food, running off to sessions in classrooms and drinking each night...I just wasn't transported back to a younger self in the same way. There was no sense of temporary abandon.

It might have also been tainted by the shock I got when sitting in the airport waiting to come home. Our entire help desk at the University had been outsourced. Beyond the effect it has on my job personally, I can't even explain the impact this had on me. Some of these people I have known and worked with for over a decade...since I was a teenager. Now most of them are gone, and left in their wake is an awful lot to figure out...and alot of work for everyone left in the department.

So life continues apace...planning, trying to keep my head above water, etc, etc...

I'm trying to remember what I did to the furnace guy that would make him try to kill us... [Mar. 31st, 2008|09:20 pm]
[Current Mood | cold]

Today was the first day that we spent a large ammount of time at home with the heat on since AB. Now, you may or may not remember that just prior to AB, we had our furnace fixed because it was making a loud knocking noise. Noise stopped! but then, we didnt really run it for more than an hour at a time either. We'd noticed a little scent, but didnt think too much of it, since that often happens when they've been in the furnace - they get a little oil in the works and it burns.

Well. So I went to go downstairs this evening to do my laundry like a good doobie, only to be confronted by a really strong smell. Going downstairs, I realized Hey! I can't breathe either!

I think that qualifies as Not. Good.

Dropped the laundry and headed back downstairs with a lungful of clean air to realize that when the guy was fixing the furnace, HE FORGOT TO RE ATTACH THE EHAUST PIPE FROM THE FURNACE TO THE CHIMNEY

yes. our oil burning furnace has been venting into the basement for days now.

victor was able to re attach the pipe and now we have all the windows in the house open and fans running.

Ugh. Just...ugh.

stream of unconciousness update [Mar. 31st, 2008|11:54 am]
AB is over now. I am still tired. I think the things I was responsible for went well, but do wish we were going out on a higher note. Meistercake and seeing old friends were all wonderful however. Taking Lizz to her first Lush post-con was also teh awsome ;)

My Tomato came home yesterday! *love* I missed her so!

My refrigerator no longer sounds like an alarmclock. No, it sounds like a chainsaw now instead. yay me! Had to return the new fridge because it was 5/8" too big to get through the kitchen door, even with the frame removed

*sigh*

My mental health prays the smaller fridge we bought will fit!!!

If there has been a worse day, or a worse week, or a worse month for that matter...I dont know when it was.

*My furnace is making a loud banging noise and the house smells like oil

*My refrigerator has sounded like an alarm clock buzzing as of last night

*A building caught fire from an electrical problem on campus, frying half the equipment in the building

*I still only have 1/2 the playlist done for the ball. There's a major monkey wrench in our decoration plans we have to figure out, which wouldnt be so bad if I didnt feel like we are putting in alot of effort for kids who are just going to whine and complain that we didnt have a Formal Ball where you can wear watever you want and play nothing but pop music. It really hurts that we volunteer so many hours of our time to them, and they seem to mostly just act like we are out to ruin their fun.

*I still have all the guest relations stuff to handle too. alot of it.

Work is making me crazy
AB is making me crazy
Family is making me crazy

I'm barely holdin it together today.

In Memoriam: Scott Chalfin [Mar. 7th, 2008|07:30 pm]
[Current Mood | quiet]

Today, we said goodbye to a friend. and yet, I think we can never do that.

When I think of him, I will always remember him making me blush because he had lost track of our conversation and was just staring into my eyes.

He always said I had beautiful eyes.

I got drunk in his honor tonite. I know he would approve (and is probably a little dissapointed he cannot take advantage of it)

she of the too much to do [Feb. 29th, 2008|10:11 am]
I need to learn to stop taking on too much. Seriously!

The next month is going to be insane...the 7 months following it only slightly less so. It's funny how I think I'm accomplishing stuff each day...but the sheer ammount of STUFF that needs to be done that hasnt been yet makes it feel like a drop in the bucket.

Will persevere
Will make things perfect! (or something like that)
